Skin Conditions...Eczema
Eczema is a common and often chronic condition of the skin that
is seen as severe dryness, itching, and sometimes, cracks in the
skin. Eczema is often worse in the winter and is frequently located
on the back and lower legs. Eczema is found in all age groups, with
children and the elderly the most common sufferers. There is not
a cure for eczema and treatment is focused on treating the symptoms
like itching and dryness. Treatment for eczema often includes topical
steroids and plenty of moisturizers. People with eczema are taught
to avoid fragrances due to the increased sensitivity of the skin
from the dryness and cracks. People suffering from eczema should
be evaluated to rule out other problems that look like and act like
eczema.
Note: The skin disorder descriptions were compiled
by John Campbell, APRN using AAD pamphlets and "Clinical Dermatology.
Thomas B. Habif, MD" as a reference. Descriptions were reviewed
