Dermatology Associates of Tyler is pleased to offer the newest FDA-approved treatment for resistant pustular acne: the Smoothbeam laser. The Smoothbeam laser initially was designed to treat wrinkles, but has recently been shown to be an effective treatment for resistant acne.
This laser works by destroying the acne-causing oil glands attached to hair follicles on the face, chest, and back. While not designed as a first-line therapy, the Smoothbeam laser works well for resistant acne when combined with other anti-acne medications, as prescribed by your Dermatologists. This treatment does cause some discomfort and usually requires 3-4 sessions to achieve full results. Some insurance companies may cover the cost of this treatment.
