Juvederm and Restylane
Juvederm
Juvederm® is a dermal facial filler that provides a non-invasive means to attain a more youthful appearance. In short, it is a nonsurgical wrinkle treatment. When injected into the skin, Juvederm® restores the skin´s volume and hydration smoothing away wrinkles and nasolabial folds ("smile lines").
Juvederm® is a specially formulated gel composed of cross-linked hyaluronic acid (a natural protein). It was developed by Allergan (the manufacturer of Botox®) and approved for cosmetic use by the FDA in 2006. Juvederm® has an especially smooth consistency that allows it to be administered with relative ease and accuracy.
A treatment with Juvederm® is very brief and requires little to no downtime. Each treatment requires approximately 15 minutes depending on the number of injections required. Results are immediate.
The appealing cosmetic results from Juvederm® can be maintained for up to one year. Results may vary and correction is temporary. Because hyaluronic acid is a natural protein, Juvederm® will be gradually absorbed into the body. Additional injections ("touch ups") may be requested to achieve and maintain optimal results.
There are two formulations of Juvederm®. Your dermatologist will use the formulation best suited to your aesthetic needs. In general, Juvederm® Ultra is used in areas where subtle volume enhancement is required, such as around the eyes ("crow´s feet"). Juvederm® Ultra Plus tends to be used for more profound volume enhancement to correct deeper folds.
Because Juvederm® is related to a natural protein, its use poses little risk of an allergic reaction and does not require an allergy test.
For the first day after treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risks of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites.
After the treatment, some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period. Your healthcare professional will tell you when cosmetics may be applied.
Restylane
Restylane® is a well-established dermal fillers that provide a safe and non-invasive means to create natural, younger-looking skin.
Restylane® are made of a specially-formulated version of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in human skin. When injected into the skin, this dermal filler replaces the fullness and elasticity that may have been lost from aging or years of sun exposure.
Restylane® is approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane® replaces lost volume and restores youthful contours to their skin.
Results from a typical treatment have been documented to last about six months.
